Professional Career

Oklahoma City Blue – 2016-17

After going undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft, Caruso got the opportunity to play in the Philadelphia 76ers Summer League team. On September 23, 2016, he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder but was waived on October 17. A couple of weeks later, on November 3, Caruso signed with the Oklahoma City Blue G League Team. Caruso played in 3 games and averaged only 3.3 points.

Los Angeles Lakers – 2017-21

Caruso got another opportunity to play in the Summer League, but this time with the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 19.0 points and 7.8 assists, which earned him a two-way contract from the Lakers. In his NBA debut, Caruso got 2 points, two rebounds, and one assist in 12 minutes on October 19, 2017, against the Los Angeles Clippers. Caruso finished his rookie season with averages of 3.6 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 37 games. He also played for the South Bay Lakers and averaged 19.0 points, 7.8 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in 29 games.

Caruso signed another two-way contract after performing well in the 2018 Summer League. On April 5, 2019, Caruso scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed ten rebounds in a 122-117 win against the Los Angeles Clippers. Two nights later, Caruso got a double-double of 18 points and a career-high 11 assists in a 113-109 win against the Utah Jazz. He finished the season with averages of 9.2 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in 25 games. While in the G League, he averaged 14.0 points, 5.9 assists, and 3.7 rebounds in 27 games.

Ring Season – 2019-21

On July 6, 2019, Alex Caruso signed a 2-year/$5.5 Million deal to stay with the Lakers. On December 8, 2019, Caruso had season-high 16 points and grabbed four rebounds in a 142-125 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He finished the 2019-20 season with averages of 5.5 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.9 rebounds. Caruso got his first NBA championship and started in the series clincher against the Miami Heat.

Next season, Caruso dealt with injuries and was only limited to 58 games in the 2020-21 season. He finished the season averaging 6.4 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.9 rebounds. Caruso wanted to return to the Lakers but signed with a new team instead.

Chicago Bulls – 2021-Present

On August 10, 2021, Caruso signed a 4-year/$37 Million deal with the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 7.4 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.6 rebounds in his first season with the Bulls in 41 games. On January 21, 2022, Caruso fractured his right wrist on a hard foul by Grayson Allen and was out for 4-6 weeks. In the first-round matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, Caruso averaged 6.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.8 rebounds in 4 games. He missed game five due to a face injury. Chicago lost in 5 games against the Bucks.
