After an impressive win last Friday, Chicago suffered their most significant loss in Summer League history at 32 points, 101-69. Ultimately, these game results won’t matter, but watching the game as Bulls was rough. Every Bull struggled shooting today except Carlik Jones, who shot 5-6 from the field. On the other side, New York becomes 2-0 and has won by at least 10 points in their two wins against Chicago and Golden State. Quentin Grimes led the Knicks with team-high 24 points, shooting 7-14 from the field. Jericho Sims had a double-double of 11 points and ten rebounds.

Rough First Half for Chicago

The Bulls started the game, missing their first 11 shots in the game. Chicago got their first point by a free throw by Carlik Jones with 5:52 left in the first quarter. Henri Drell got the Bulls their first made shot in the game with 2:55 left in the first quarter. The Bulls had 11 points in the first quarter and 13 points in the second quarter. By halftime, the Bulls were down by 35 points, 59-24. Chicago had more turnovers (13) than shots made (7). Those 13 turnovers led to 23 points for New York. Dalen Terry got his points at the free-throw line with 7:04 left in the first half, and Simonovic scored 0 points in the first half, which was very disappointing.

Give credit to New York

For the second straight game, the Knicks scored at least 25 points in the first quarter. Today against the Bulls, 27 points, shooting 60% from the field. They would finish the game, shooting 51.4% from the field. New York was more physical, which led to a 42-30 rebounding advantage and 42-26 points in the paint advantage. Simonovic had no chance against Sims, Simonovic got up 240 pounds, but that wasn’t enough to defend Sims in the post. There was more fun energy and talking on defense, unlike Chicago, who looked lost on the court.

Dalen Terry brought energy in the third quarter

Chicago had a couple of positives today, but those only came during the third quarter. After a Grimes three made the score 65-26, Terry led the Bulls on an 8-0 run. Terry scored 10 points and went 3-3 from the field. He made one three-pointer as well. Dalen Terry had a nice tomahawk dunk, but the Bulls were still down by at least 30 points. Terry showed true leadership and helped his teammates get some energy to win the third quarter 26-20. The third quarter was the only quarter Chicago scored above 20 points.

Final Thoughts

Work in Progress

This game won’t matter years from now. But no team shouldn’t ever lose by 30+ points in any game. First Round pick Dalen Terry had another solid game, offensive and defensive. Carlik Jones played alright. Justin Lewis and Marko Simonovic will shine more with the Windy City Bulls later this year. Expect a better showing from the players and coaching staff on Tuesday against the Toronto Raptors.

Knicks are contenders Championship

The New York Knicks have enough NBA experience and defensive energy to win the 2022 Summer League Championship. The Knicks will look to possibly be one of the first teams to become 3-0. Quentin Grimes and Jericho Sims are becoming a solid duo on this Knicks Summer League squad. Sims and Grimes have a combined 87 games of NBA experience.
