The Chicago Bulls had a rough night with their loss against the San Antonio Spurs, 129-124, and the Bulls have lost their second straight road game. After another slow start, they got back in the court led by their bench. But the starters could not hold the lead late in the fourth quarter. Here are four takeaways from the Bulls’ second consecutive road loss.
1. Wake Up Call for Nikola Vucevic
With 2:47 left in the game, Vucevic got sent to the bench and did not enter back into the game. That was the game was out of reach, and Chicago was down by five with 14 seconds left in the game. In the fourth quarter, Vucevic went 0-for-2 in 2:55 minutes. He would finish the game with nine points and five points.
Vucevic will get a chance to have a back-bounce game against Joel Embiid tonight at the United Center. Remember, Vucevic will be motivated because he got drafted by the 76ers back in 2011 but got traded to the Orlando Magic one year later. Throughout Vucevic’s career, he has had struggles against the Spurs. Hopefully, this game against San Antonio is a wake-up call for someone looking to get the big bucks in the summer of 2021.
2. Andre Drummond, Coby White White perform well
Andre Drummond had himself a night with 17 points and 14 rebounds on 8-for-12 shooting from the field. With Vucevic struggling to grab rebounds against Jakob Poeltl, he got more minutes and did not disappoint Bulls’ nation. Even though they lost in San Antonio, Chicago got a steal in free agency by signing Andre Drummond. Drummond is still young at 29 and will be in Chicago for the next two seasons. Drummond had the second-highest plus/minus for any Bulls player at +13.
The highest plus/minus for any Bulls player was Coby White. White got back in double-digit points with his 19-point performance. White helped out Goran Dragic and Andre Drummond get the Bulls to get back in the game late in the first quarter. They kept the Bulls in the game, but the starters could not hold onto the lead. Chicago’s bench will key for a great season.
3. Bulls can’t catch any breaks with these hot shooters
It seems like everybody shoots lights out against Chicago. The Bulls are getting out to shooters from the outside and contesting every shot, but everybody is hitting tough shots, especially last night. After the Spurs’ hot start, the Bulls climbed back into the game. Chicago will likely not catch any breaks tonight when they face the 76ers, but they will return home to the United Center, and Zach Lavine is expected to play. He was out against the Spurs due to left knee management. Don’t expect Lavine to play the first game of any back-to-back game this season.
