Offense
After having a great final season with the New Orleans Pelicans, Lonzo Ball had another impactful season, even though his season was cut short to 35 games. Ball averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. He had career-highs in FG% at 42.3% and 3P% at 42.3%. When Ball scored more than 15 points, Chicago was 9-3.
The two biggest offensive positives this season for Ball was getting out in transition and his three-shot ability. Ball will always look for outlet players and push the pace for his entire career. Chicago was 6th in the NBA at Fastbreak Points when Ball got hurt in early January. But the Bulls finished the season 14th by the end of the season without him. Ball’s three ability was a big question mark going into the 2021-22 season, but he responded well, increasing his season average from the 2020-21 season, which was at 37.8%. His biggest three-point shot of the season was the dagger in Brooklyn when he gave the Bulls a 110-105 lead with 16.9 seconds left in the game.
Defense
The biggest strength for Ball on defense was his ability to switch at any time. That includes switches onto some of the best forwards and centers of the NBA. In the 2021-22 season, Ball averaged a career-high in steals at 1.8 and blocks at 0.9. Ball finished the season with a defensive rating of 111.0, which was 3rd best on the team. Before the Ball injury, Chicago allowed 107.8 points per game. But for the rest of the season, the Bulls allowed 115.3 points per game.

Overall Grade
The Bulls look like a complete team with Lonzo Ball in the lineup. Without Ball this season, Chicago had a 22-13 record and was at the top of the eastern conference during early January. But after Ball got his right knee hurt, the Bulls were 24-23 for the rest of the season. If Ball gets back to 100%, plays an entire season, and at most misses five games, Chicago can go deep in the postseason. Ball has not played more than 63 games in a season.
Final Grade: B+
